Scottish Climate Week 2026
Scottish Climate Week provided a great opportunity to showcase the practical actions taking place across Hillcrest to support our sustainability ambitions. From staff engagement and learning events to outdoor education and sustainable travel initiatives, it was fantastic to see colleagues and partners getting involved throughout the week.
Clean Energy Talk & Tour
On Tuesday, staff and Board Members joined the first HQ Clean Energy Talk & Tour, hosted by the Sustainability Team, to learn more about Hillcrest’s new solar PV installations at HQ Explorer Road and South Ward Road in Dundee.
The session included a behind the scenes tour of the boiler room and biomass system, giving attendees the opportunity to see our sustainability initiatives in action and learn more about Hillcrest’s journey towards a lower-carbon future.
Sustainability Representatives Visit Energy From Waste Facility
On Thursday, Hillcrest’s Sustainability Representatives came together for their first in-person event at the MVV Baldovie Energy from Waste Facility in Dundee.
The day included climate literacy training delivered by Keep Scotland Beautiful, helping colleagues build their knowledge, explore their role in supporting Hillcrest’s sustainability ambitions, and share ideas with representatives from across the organisation. Attendees also enjoyed a tour of the facility, gaining an insight into how non-recyclable waste is converted into energy.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to an informative and inspiring day.
Explorer Road Nursery Woodland Walks
Throughout the week, Hillcrest welcomed children from Explorer Road Kindergarten Nursery to our HQ woodland for morning and afternoon outdoor learning sessions.
Delivered in partnership with Insights and the Greenwave Project at Arthurstone Library, the children explored nature using binoculars, bug nets, trays and wildlife identification guides. It was fantastic to see so many young people enjoying and learning from the woodland, while also sparking interest among Hillcrest staff to get out and explore this valuable natural asset on our doorstep.
