The projects represent a significant investment in renewable energy and support Hillcrest’s ongoing commitment to reducing carbon emissions across our operations. Funding for the installations was secured with support from the Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES), helping to accelerate our transition towards cleaner, more sustainable energy.
The new solar arrays are expected to generate renewable electricity for both buildings, reducing reliance on grid electricity and lowering the carbon impact of our daily operations. At Explorer Road HQ, the system is designed to meet much of the building’s energy demand, with surplus renewable electricity exported back to the grid. The South Ward Road installation will also help power the building using clean, renewable energy generated on site.

Together, the two solar arrays are expected to reduce Hillcrest’s carbon emissions by more than 30 tonnes of CO₂ each year, making a valuable contribution to our environmental goals. To help showcase the impact of the project, live energy display screens will be installed, allowing staff and visitors to see renewable energy generation and carbon savings in real time.
The installations form part of Hillcrest’s Net Zero & Climate Change Strategy and our wider solar programme, which aims to reduce the carbon footprint of powering and heating our commercial and residential buildings while supporting Scotland’s transition to a low-carbon future.
Thank you to everyone who supported the project and accommodated the installation works. This is another positive step in our journey towards a more sustainable future for our customers, communities, and colleagues.
