As part of the Sexual Health & Blood Borne Virus Managed Care Network – Eliminating Hepatitis C team, Hillcrest Futures’ harm reduction service was delighted to win the Integrated Care Award at the prestigious Scottish Health Awards last week.
The service received the accolade for the work they have carried out in partnership with NHS Tayside and University of Dundee to achieve a world first of successfully eradicating the deadly blood disease Hepatitis C in Tayside.
The team’s joint approach, using multiple methods and care pathways, has turned around the lives of many people and is now a blueprint for Hepatitis C elimination.
Hillcrest Futures’ contribution to the achievement was utilising the effective relationships staff had already built with service users and encouraging them to be tested and supported to access and engage with treatment. Over the past decade over 2000 tests have been carried out.
The Scottish Health Awards, now in their 19th year, were held virtually last Wednesday and shone a spotlight on the individuals and teams who make it their life mission to deliver high-quality health and social care services to people across Scotland.
