Care Inspectorate recognises positive impact of Hillcrest Futures’ Edinburgh & Fife teams
People supported by Hillcrest Futures’ Edinburgh & Fife support services have spoken of feeling safer, more hopeful and better able to live independently following a recent Care Inspectorate inspection. During the inspection, inspectors visited Hillcrest Futures’ Tollcross View service in Edinburgh and highlighted the high quality support provided by staff and the positive outcomes being achieved for people supported across the Edinburgh & Fife services.
The inspection recognised the services’ work with people who have a range of complex needs, including learning disabilities, autism, mental health challenges, substance use issues and homelessness, praising the wide-ranging positive outcomes delivered through the teams’ person-centred approach.
Inspectors heard consistently positive feedback from the people using the services. One person described it as “a safe place for me. It’s helped me stay well and in my own tenancy. That’s a huge positive.”
Another explained how the support had transformed their outlook, saying: “I’ve been able to look at life and see different priorities since I moved here. I have more hope. Support has played a big part in changing aspects of my life which undermined my wellbeing.”
The report also highlighted the dedication of staff, describing them as a significant asset to the service. Inspectors found staff had a strong understanding of the people they support and used that knowledge to build trusting relationships and provide responsive support tailored to individual needs.
One person supported by the services said: “Staff are brilliant, they always go the extra mile for you. I know I can trust them.” Another added: “They are excellent. They have provided the support I needed to make positive changes.”
Inspectors also recognised the services’ strong partnership working, noting that staff communicate proactively with health professionals and other agencies to ensure people receive the right support when their needs change.
