Tenant owned gas appliances
Hillcrest is responsible for the safety checks and servicing of the gas installation, associated pipe work and gas appliances provided in your home as part of your tenancy. If you install a gas appliance which has not been provided as part of your tenancy, you must only use a Gas Safe registered installer to safely carry out the work.
You should visit www.gassaferegister.co.uk for further information.
The Gas Safe register lists all engineers who have the necessary qualifications to install your appliance. Hillcrest has statutory responsibilities when carrying out the annual gas safety visit to visually inspect all installed appliances in the property, however, this responsibility does not extend to the maintenance or repair of your owned appliance. Should we find the appliance to be unsafe, we will disconnect and cap the appliance in accordance with the Gas Safe unsafe situations guidance.
It is your responsibility to ensure your own gas appliance is safely installed and maintained and you must not use it if you believe that it is in any way dangerous.
If you feel the appliance may be unsafe, smell gas, or your carbon monoxide detector is sounding you should turn off the gas supply and immediately contact the emergency service on 0800 111 999.
