Stay safe from scam calls

Posted: February 6, 2025

Scam calls are on the rise, and we want to make sure you know how to stay safe against them.

Scammers will often try to pretend to be a company you trust, such as your bank, your energy supplier, parcel delivery services such as DPD or Amazon, or even ourselves. When they call, they might seem professional and friendly and there could be a wide range of reasons that they say they are calling about, but usually they are trying to capture your personal or financial details.

Here’s a few top tips that can help protect you against scammers:

  1. NEVER share passwords or pin numbers with anyone over the phone
  2. Never log into any sensitive accounts such as your bank account if asked by a caller
  3. If the call comes out of the blue, then approach it with suspicion
  4. If you have any doubts at all, hang up and call the company back on the number provided on Google or their website
  5. Scammers will usually try to rush you into giving them the information they want – this can include claims that your bank account has been hacked, you are accidentally due a huge bill, an unauthorised transaction has come out of your bank account, etc. If the caller tries to rush you by saying you only have a limited time to sort the issue, hang up and as above, look for the genuine number to call back and check.
  6. Suspicious or scam calls can be reported to www.ncsc.gov.uk
