12 young people were given work placements with local trades employers, including Hillcrest Maintenance Services (HMS), as part of a Prince’s Trust Scotland initiative in Dundee earlier this month.
The Dundee young people shadowed electricians for a week’s hands on training.
Trust-supported Tristan Thomson, HMS’s placement for the week, said: “The placement was a great opportunity to get introduced to a company as by going through agencies you don’t get the chance to make these connections.”
HMS operations manager, Gavin Scott said: “We spend a lot of time investing in apprenticeships and training opportunities and our work with The Prince’s Trust compliments our other activities around youth employment.
“Last year we employed seven young people as apprentices across a number of trades, and two 4th year joiners successfully completed their apprentices and secured employment.”
In partnership with Barnardos in Dundee, HMS has provided work experience opportunities for two young people and has been working with Braeview Academy to engage with school pupils as they start to think about what career path to take.
