Staff from across the Hillcrest Group of Companies gathered at Hillcrest HQ in Dundee last week to take part in a number of health and safety themed activities.
Hillcrest’s health and safety team, along with a few guest speakers, organised a jam-packed day of fun workshops and interactive tasks.
The day included a bus trip to the local recycling centre to learn about risk assessments; a demo on how to safely use an EVAC chair in emergency situations and a talk from Police Scotland on their New Driver Early Intervention Scheme which aims to promote safer driving techniques to reduce road accidents.
Other activities included a substance use awareness presentation from Gowrie Care’s harm reduction team manager Danny Kelly; a tour of a Safety Camera Scotland speed van and a workshop facilitated by Strathearn Pest Control educating staff on the prevention and removal of pests.
Janice Fraser, Hillcrest’s health, safety and sustainability advisor commented: “It’s great to see such a range of people getting involved. We’ve had a fun day but a day that has made people think about the important of risk assessments not only in the workplace, but also in daily life.
“On the lead up to the day we challenged staff to use waste material to create a mascot that will prompt people to think twice and assess situations for potential risks.
“The winning mascot was a rat made from paper mache holding a “hazardous substance” and a sign reminding people to always label bottles correctly. Well done to the team at Gowrie Care’s River Street service for your truly unique creation!”
