Helen, Operations Manager for Housing with Care services

Hi, I’m Helen. I started with Hillcrest Futures when it was formerly known as Gowrie Care as an Assistant Co-ordinator for Alyth Homecare in October 2015.

In July 2018, I moved over to Housing with Care – a brand-new service, as an Assistant Co-ordinator based at The Waverley service in Broughty Ferry. As the service grew and developed, the demands of the service gave me the opportunity to act as a Manager in May 2019 for four Housing with Care services across Dundee, supporting older people living in sheltered housing accommodation.

In July 2019, I took up the post of Manager for Housing with Care services, which involved day to day running and line management. It was in August 2022 that I took on my current post of Operations Manager.

I specialise in working with older people because I enjoy supporting them to lead their best life. Managing the teams across Dundee who support individuals to remain independent in their homes is rewarding in itself. Social inclusion plays a huge part in the lives of vulnerable individuals by reducing isolation and improving mental health. By listening to staff feedback on the individuals supported in my services I actively offer solutions to concerns raised to ensure that individual preference and choice are taken into consideration and where possible granted for a positive outcome.

I really enjoy working for Hillcrest Futures as there are lots of opportunities for personal development. During my time here, I have increased my personal knowledge in Health and Social Care and Leadership and Management by completing three qualifications.  I’m currently studying for another which is supported by the company. I find that Hillcrest and my colleagues are supportive in assisting me to achieve my personal goals and career progression, just as I am supportive in helping others with their personal achievements. Teamwork is key in all aspects of Health and Social care settings to ensure service delivery and positive outcomes for all. I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to develop my knowledge and skills and career progression within the company.

If you have a caring nature and enjoy seeing individuals living to the best of their abilities, I can recommend working for Hillcrest Futures. The company offers a supported work life balance by taking the time to understand personal pressures and commitments, and provides flexible working contracts.
