Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs)

Posted: April 4, 2024

Did you know that EICRs are carried out in properties every 5 years? It may be that the property you live in is due an EICR, and if so, you will receive notification via either text, email, or letter.  Should the date given be unsuitable, please call 08000 324 888 to rearrange.  A text message will also be sent out to you the day before the appointment as a reminder.

What is an EICR and why we do them?

  • An EICR is an Electrical Installation Condition Report that is completed in all Hillcrest Properties every five years.  This is a legal requirement and it is for the safety of all our tenants.

How long does this take to carry out?

  • The length of time varies dependent on size and type of property, however, as a guide an EICR typically takes between two and four hours to complete.

What are the benefits?

  • An EICR can identify any potential hazards which our electrician will then fix. This can help to avoid any accidents or injuries that may occur as a result of an unsafe electrical installation.

What access is required to carry out an EICR?

The engineer will need clear access to:

  • The consumer unit – sometimes referred to as the fuseboard. There must be a clear passageway to the consumer unit.
  • Access to all rooms within the property – We do not expect every room to be empty, but we need to visually inspect all the electrical points within each room and physically test 20% of each circuit. If we cannot gain access, it will be marked on the report that there are limitations within certain rooms.
