Challenge Poverty Week: housing

Posted: October 3, 2023

Today’s Challenge Poverty Week topic is housing, and the costs associated with your home.

If you rent your home and receive Housing Benefit or Universal Credit but still can’t afford your housing costs, you may be eligible to apply for a Discretionary Housing Payment.

A Discretionary Housing Payment can be made if you:

  • claim Housing Benefit, but it doesn’t cover all your rent;
  • claim Universal Credit, but still can’t afford your housing costs;
  • need help with removal costs, or
  • need help with a rent deposit.

It’s your local council that is responsible for deciding if you will get a Discretionary Housing Payment, but if you are a Hillcrest tenant or member of staff and would like to find out more or get help to apply, please contact us on 0300 1232640.
