Kelly Christie is a mental health peer support worker at our Angus Mental Health Peer Support service.
Kelly, who suffered a severe brain injury 16 years ago, has used her own experiences of mental health struggles during her extraordinary recovery to help others. Find out more about her story here.
In a bid to widen her support, Kelly has recently become a voluntary trainer for the Tayside Suicide Prevention Training Group, a course
is facilitated by Angus Health & Social Care Partnership, NHS Tayside and Angus Council.
There are currently 14 volunteers in the team including people who work for Hillcrest Futures, CMHT, Penumbra, Dundee & Angus College and Montrose Academy to name a few.
The one-day course is free and available to anyone in Angus, Dundee, Perth and Kinross. The course covers how to recognise the signs of suicidal behaviour and how to help those who are struggling by developing coping techniques and creating safety plans for periods of poor mental health.
Suicide is a taboo subject that many do not know how to address. The course hopes to break down these barriers and stigma around suicide.
