Staff from Hillcrest Futures recently delivered an important Naloxone awareness and training session as part of Hillcrest’s Housing Away Day, helping to equip colleagues with the knowledge and confidence to respond in an overdose situation.
The session was led by Toni-Marie Porter, Senior Harm Reduction Project Worker, and Danny Kelly, Operations Manager. With more than 70 staff in attendance, the training provided a valuable opportunity to raise awareness about the role of Naloxone in preventing drug-related deaths and supporting harm reduction across communities.
As a result of the session, 46 nasal Naloxone sprays were supplied to Hillcrest staff, including Chief Executive John Alexander. This marks a significant achievement and highlights our ongoing commitment to community safety and wellbeing.

John Alexander said: “This training is an important step in making sure our staff feel confident and prepared to respond in an emergency. It reflects our wider commitment to supporting the safety and wellbeing of the communities we serve.”
Toni-Marie Porter added: “We saw a real boost in confidence once staff were introduced to the nasal Naloxone sprays. People told us they felt much more comfortable using them compared to injectables, as they are easier to handle and less daunting in an emergency. Building that confidence is vital, because it means more people are ready to step in quickly and potentially save a life.”
By providing both training and access to Naloxone, Hillcrest Futures continues to play an essential role in promoting harm reduction and empowering people with the tools to save lives.
