Reach for the Stars with Hillcrest Futures

Hillcrest Futures, in collaboration with renowned local artist Pamie Bennett,  launched a rocket to reach for the stars this week.

The unveiling of the unique rocket sculpture, designed by people who access Hillcrest Futures’ services, took place at the Wellgate Shopping Centre where the artwork will be situated for all to see.

The rocket stands as a legacy of Futures Fest, an all-accessible music festival funded by the Hillcrest Foundation held last year. Brenda Fenton, Hillcrest Futures Former Chairperson explained “The all-accessible music festival was a groundbreaking event that brought together people of all abilities to enjoy music, entertainment and community. The festival’s success underscored the importance of creating spaces where everyone can participate and feel included. The rocket sculpture stands as a lasting reminder of that joyous event.”

The rocket sculpture was crafted through a series of collaborative workshops that brought together the artistic visions of people supported by Hillcrest Futures under the expert guidance of Pamie Bennett. Pamie explained that “Working on this project has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The group’s enthusiasm and unique perspectives have brought a fresh and inspiring dimension to this project.

“The rocket sculpture is not just a piece of art, it’s a powerful symbol of what we can achieve when we come together and support one another.”

The rocket statue will now stand under the historic Wellgate Clock for all to enjoy.
