Apprenticeships create the skills every generation needs, and every employer wants. This year’s theme of Skills Generation demonstrates that apprenticeships give people high-quality opportunities, whilst supporting them to achieve their full potential.
To mark the week, we have spoken to five of our current apprentices to hear their views on apprenticeships, skill development and more.
In today’s Q&A post, we hear from Casey Craig, Apprentice Electrician, as she reflects on her apprenticeship and tells us what she hopes to do in the future.
Hi, my name is Casey Craig and I’m an Apprentice Electrician with Hillcrest Maintenance.
My hobbies include walking my dog and watching Netflix shows.
What I enjoy most about my apprenticeship is the people you get to meet, the learning ability you gain, the surroundings you come across and the opportunity to develop as a person.
The skills I am developing are my installation work, my knowledge of electrical systems, and the repair work I am doing.
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Always be enthusiastic, willing to learn and always be on time if you are given the opportunity to become an apprentice.
The main benefits of completing an apprenticeship are learning new skills, meeting new people, and opening opportunities for yourself.
In the future I hope to be a successful electrician and develop my career the furthest I can.
Hillcrest has supported me by giving me the training I need, from both the tradespeople as well as managers.
