We have established Clothesline projects in Dundee and Edinburgh to improve the availability of good quality clothing to people who can’t afford it or access it easily.
Through our Clothesline projects we aim to reduce the stigma of being homeless when it comes to sourcing clothing. With little or no money, good quality free clothing can be hard to come by. To help combat this, the team at Gowrie Care’s Bruntsfield service in Edinburgh launched the first Clothesline “shop” in 2012.
As a modern take on the traditional charity shop or clothing bank, our Clothesline projects offer people a comfortable yet stylish space to browse through different sections, all labelled in sizes rather than rummaging through boxes, and try on the clothes they are going to take.
Clothesline gives its visitors the shopping experience but without the price tag!
People can take items of clothing free of charge.
“Amazing, better than the shops. All different styles and sizes. It’s boosted my confidence having
decent quality clothes. Best place in Edinburgh” – Willie Young
“It’s nice having a changing area as I like privacy to try things on, I wish other supported units had a place like this” – Holly Allan
“Cool clothes and staff were brilliant when I went down for trousers and a shirt and tie so I could attend an interview, nice feeling dressed up as it helps my confidence” – Daniel Smith
If you live in Dundee or Edinburgh and feel that you could benefit from Clothesline then please ask your support worker to refer you to the service using our referral forms.
